Last week in L.A. I met a friend and mentor who, years ago, asked my Mom for permission to take me on one of my 1st gigs in Compton playing jazz (like Blue Note stuff ) & got paid !! That person was the Great Wayne Vaughn. He asked if I could do a little something for a radio show. KPFK was doing a show on Wayne and his historical contributions in the music industry (Gap Band E.W.F.), the segment on the G spot. Wayne was able to humbly explain some his growth from working with Quincy Jones and Maurice White (RIP). An amazing 28th and 29th of January. Well, we managed to do little something before he shot to the late night interview and I wanna Thank you Wayne for the kind mention of Christy Smith from Compton via Singapore and an opportunity to play with you under any circumstances !
